Bwl surrender advantage

Ynysybwl were in control of this SWALEC League Division 2 East encounter, 20 – 10 ahead as the game entered the later stages. But, frustratingly, they were to end up with just a losing bonus point for their efforts.
The Bwl had their hosts under pressure straight from the kick off with centre Sean Ireland looking ominous in attack. But they encountered, to their frustration, bewildering decisions against them.
And it was against the run of play, Newport Saracens took the lead with a converted try, during their first and rare venture into Bwl territory.
To the frustration of the coaches, and indeed their travelling supporters, the Bwl failed to turn their territorial advantage and abundance of possession into points. As the end of the first half drew close a penalty award after a period of Bwl pressure was converted by captain Nathan Ellis.

Half time: Newport Saracens 7 Ynysybwl 3

The Bwl were on the ascendancy from the start of the second half and it wasn’t long before Elis had doubled his sides score with another penalty.
Ynysybwl forwards were now in command and following a drive reached their opponents 22 metre line. As the Saracens defence line waited for the ball to be slung along the Bwl back line the quick thinking Ellis nipped over for a try which he converted.
The Bwl’s score-line advantage was soon shortened by a successful penalty for the home side but it wasn’t long before the strength of the Bwl pack was to reap more rewards. The Bwl secured the put in to a scrum on their opponents 5 metre line. A drive by the forwards shoved the Saracens pack over their own line to enable number 8 Alun Thomas to touch down. Ellis converted.
The Bwl were by now in control at this stage with 15 minutes of play remaining. And, it wasn’t for indecisions, they could and indeed should have extended their lead. Wing Gareth King broke from within his own 22 and was caught deep in opposition territory looking for support. And opposite wing Lewis Ryan had the try line at his mercy but was pushed into the corner flag to prevent him touching down for a try.
With several changes made to both sides it was the home team who become the more confident. A speculative chip over the Bwl defence line earned them a try in the corner. The touch-line conversion reduced the points deficit for the visitors to just one score.
As the game went into the last minute the Bwl appeared to have snuffed out a Saracens attack. But indecision in defence from another speculative kick was, agonisingly for the Bwl supporters, punished severely with a match winning score.
From appearing to be heading for their fourth consecutive win, the Bwl tasted their first league defeat of the season and had to settle for a losing bonus point.
